Terry Vernazza

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Terry Vernazza. Terry suffered a massive heart attack on Monday 4th November which he didn’t recover from. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family at this very sad time.

It was typical of Terry, just 71, that on the morning he was preparing the club mower ready for its annual service and took home the cassettes to finish cleaning them when he had a fatal heart attack.

Terry’s funeral will be on Thursday 21st November 10.30am at the Saltwell Crematorium, Saltwell Road South, Low Fell, Gateshead NE9 6DT And afterwards at the Hotel Eslington Villas, 8 Station Road, Low Fell, Gateshead NE9 6DR and Alison is very keen for everyone who attends the funeral to go to the after event.

Tyneside fielded a team of ladies comprising Pat Memery, Maggie Smith, Julie Scott and Judith McLane. The Belsay team comprised Arnie and Pauline Clegg, Alan Mundy and Brenda Johnson.

Tyneside CqE Advanced AC Tournament

Weekend 3rd & 4th August 2024

Dennis Scarr of Middlesbrough CC won the tournament by virtue of having the most hoop points as he together with Mark Simmerson (Sheffield) and Roger Staples (Middlesbrough) had 5 wins each.

Pavilion break in.

The Pavilion was broken into over Friday night 19th July and was discovered on the Saturday morning 20th July when the GC team members arrived for the match against Durham. The match was immediately postponed due to the state of the Pavilion inside – the outside main shutter over the windows had been forced and a window smashed to gain access. The cupboards in the main room were all ransacked, the equipment room door had been forced open. The Committee members were able to clean up over the weekend and “normal” service was resumed by Monday evening. Urban Green and the Police were informed and UG are to replace the broken window and shutter. After an inventory check, it was found that 2 hedge trimmers and 2 leaf blowers were stolen for which we could be reimbursed through our insurance claim.

This is the second major break in of the Pavilion, the last time was 2003 when, after replacing the plastic windows with double glazed glass and fitting steel shutters over all the windows and doors, we thought we were safe from intruders!
